Training Information:

Accepting and inclusive families, faith communities, educators, caregivers, and youth-serving professionals are key to the success and well-being of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ) young people. LGBTQ youth are often subject to harassment at school, erasure in faith communities, rejection from their families, and hostility in youthserving systems.

Lighthouse Youth & Family Services’ cultural competency training focuses on promoting safe,
competent, and supportive care and welcoming environments for LGBTQ young people.

Attendees will have the opportunity to :
  • Explore personal values regarding LGBTQ youth and learn the importance of balancing personal beliefs with professional responsibilities.
  • Increase competence in discussing sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • Practice identifying issues of risk, challenges, and strengths that are specific to LGBTQ people, their families, other caregivers and service delivery systems.
  • Practice identifying affirmative interventions with LGBTQ youth, their families, other caregivers and service providers.
  • Develop an action plan that will develop or enhance professional and agency cultural competency.

FREE

Attendance limited to 30 - registration required.
Please note that attendees must arrive on time and attend the entire training to receive CEUs.
