Supersedes:
For your personal safety and the safety of clients and co-workers, all staff should become familiar with the building layout, location(s) of fire extinguishers and emergency exit routes that are posted in each office.
In case of fire at the Tri-County Board offices:
- Begin moving to safety immediately. Notify all staff in the building if possible and activate fire alarm.
- When you can safely do so, call 911 and provide the following information:
- Address of the Board Office
- Location of fire
- Any persons trapped in building
- Proceed (and assist visitors) to the emergency meeting place at west parking lot and notify supervisor & fire personnel of any persons in the building that are not present
- Refer all media to the Director of Community Resource Development
General fire safety information if involved in a fire
- Assist in the evacuation of the building.
- If air is smoke-filled, stay low to the floor where it is less toxic.
- Place hand on doors before opening. If very hot to the touch, do not open.
- Take fire stairs and make sure to close door to stairwell behind you.
- Do not attempt to use elevator, these normally “lock” on activation of fire alarm.
- If you are trapped, hang an article of clothing out of window to show where you are.
- Stay away from hydrants and access areas adjacent to building.
- Stay alert to any indications someone is trying to signal from a window.
- Notify fire department immediately if you see indications someone is trapped.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a piece of cloth-wet it if possible.
Fire drills and review of this policy will be conducted on at least an annual basis.
