Description:
​

The training will focus on the laws and programs that are related to Forensic Services in the State of Ohio and those persons who might be impacted by the law including person with mental illness and developmental disabilities.  

Information on the Community Linkage Program in Ohio and how it connects inmates in prison back to their community to align needed treatment and support.    

There will be a review of the Court Evaluations that take place including Competency Evaluations and the court procedures that accompany those.   

Competency Restoration will be discussed including the time frames and locations for possible restoration with the differing crimes.  Information will be included on the status of Incompetent to Stand Trial – Restorable, Incompetent to Stand Trial – Unrestorable and Incompetent to Stand Trial – Unrestorable with Criminal Court Jurisdiction.  The steps in each level and the treatment/services with each level. 

The status of Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity will be examined including the Criminal Responsibility for such a designation.  The Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity Commitment time frames and locations will be reviewed.  

A review of the duties of the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board will be presented.  The role of Forensic Monitor will be discussed.  The group will also review the legal responsibility for Conditional Release.  The team will look at the necessary components of a Conditional Release Plan and the time frames associated with this process.  

 
Objectives:
  1. Participant will develop an understanding of the Competency Evaluation and the resulting indications. 
  2. Participant will develop an understanding of Competency Restoration and the related services.  
  3. Participant will develop an understanding of Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity.
  4. Participant will develop and understanding of the Conditional Release Plans and Forensic Monitoring.
